Reminder: Sat. June 21st, Burritos on Bernal! Summer Solstice is Alex’s 3rd Month Anniversary: Poets, Music & Artists welcome!

Dear Justice4AlexNieto supporters,

The third month anniversary of Alex’s passing at the hands of SFPD is this Saturday June 21st, 2014! His life was taken on the Spring Equinox, and his 3rd month anniversary is this Summer Solstice. We want to honor him with creative expressions!

We’ll meet as always at the foot of Bernal Hill at Precita Park (near the playground) at 5pm and walk up in a memorial procession to the site of his death at 6pm.

We’ll have an open mic for poets & musicians on the hill who want to share work dedicated to Alex Nieto! If you want to do something special, please write us to

ALSO, STAY TUNED! We’re planning a protest march in July against the SFPD’s brutality in the case of Alex Nieto! The recent denial of accountability by the City Attorney and the lack of progress in the D.A.’s criminal investigation (despite the D.A.’s promises to expedite the process) simply means that we need to continue to come together as a community to demand justice and make ourselves visible to City authorities.

Much love and thanks for your continued attention and support!
The Justice and Love for Alex Nieto Committee

NEWS: City Denies Wrongful Death of Alex Nieto!

NEWS: The City Denies Wrongful Death of Alex Nieto by SFPD!

The Law Offices of John L. Burris have received a Notice from the City Attorney of San Francisco, Dennis Herrera, in response to the Claim filed by Refugio and Elvira Nieto on April 14th, 2014 for the wrongful death of their son, Alex Nieto. Without any explanation regarding the findings of their investigation, the City Attorney DENIES any wrongdoing on behalf of SFPD.

City Denies Claim, dated June 2, 2014

City Denies Claim, dated June 2, 2014

We quote:

An investigation of your claim filed with the City and County of San Francisco has revealed no indication of liability on the part of the City and County. Accordingly, your claim is DENIED.

With this denial, the City is forcing the Nieto Family to consider lengthy litigation as their sole recourse for justice for their son! These processes bear a heavy toll on family and friends, prolonging closure for traumatized victims of violence.

Meanwhile, in the criminal justice process, the District Attorney’s investigation dwindles to a complete halt awaiting the slowest Medical Examiner’s Report to ever be issued by the Coroner. D.A. Gasc√≥n (a career police officer and former Chief of Police of San Francisco) promised to expedite this report, but there is no sign of interest or hurry.

This is a call to community action! Stay tuned for details!
